it's their mission!
"It's Their Mission" Youth Work Mission Trips are youth-empowered, youth-focused, multi-congregational work trips within one day's drive (450 miles) of Phoenix. The 2017 trip to Ventura, California, was the 8th It's Their Mission Youth Work Mission Trip. Previous trips have been to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ignacio and Dolores, Colorado, San Diego and Lemon Grove, California, and Chinle and Kaibeto, Arizona.
The 2017 mission trip involved work at several homes in Ventura County, a couple of churches, a Humane Society, a food bank, and a transitional family shelter.
Each "It's Their Mission" trip includes a half day of recreation; the remainder of the week is hot, hard, complex, and demanding work. Previous groups have worshiped on a San Diego beach and atop 10,600 ft Sandia Crest overlooking Albuquerque and the Rio Grande River. Groups have celebrated Communion in special locations and in special ways. Groups have rafted the Animas River in Colorado, danced to the sounds of the San Diego Banjo Band, camped at the bottom of Canyon de Chelly, and learned to make Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Navajo Fry Bread.
The 2017 trip's recreation was an afternoon of swimming at a beach at Ventura Harbor Village.
"It's Their Mission" trips are funded by selling "Stock" in the trip; a share of Stock (in any amount - from $1 to $1000) entitles the Stockholder to 1) a pre-trip letter from one of the participants, 2) a postcard from the work location, 3) an invitation to a post-trip Ice Cream Social and Media Show, and 4) the knowledge that the Stock purchase made the trip possible.
